West Northamptonshire Joint Planning Unit - Who We Are and What We Do

The Joint Planning Unit is comprised of local government officers engaged in the task of preparing the documents required by the Joint Strategic Planning Committee (JSPC) for the Joint Local Development Scheme (LDS), and submitting them to the JSPC for consideration and approval.

The first (and primary) document will be the Joint Core Strategy for West Northamptonshire, which is currently in the process of being drafted.

The JSPC comprises elected Councillors from Daventry District Council, Northampton Borough Council, South Northamptonshire Council and Northamptonshire County Council, and is charged by statute to prepare a Joint LDS.

Details of JSPC meetings, papers and the West Northamptonshire Joint Committee Order 2008 can be found here.

The latest version of the LDS was approved by the Government Office for the East Midlands in February 2010, and sets out the main documents which will be produced to provide a statutory planning framework for the whole area.  This version of the LDS document can be downloaded here.

All previous documents prepared by the Joint Planning Unit, and the supporting evidence base, can be viewed on this site using the Documents tab above.

West Northamptonshire Joint Planning Unit - Announcement

Implications of CLG Letter and Revocation of Regional Strategies - 08 July 2010

The West Northamptonshire Joint Planning Unit are investigating the potential implications of the contents of the letter sent to all Council leaders from the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government on 27th May, ‘Abolition of Regional Strategies’, and the  more detailed announcement made on July 6th, in which the Government announced the revocation of Regional Strategies.

A letter explaining this in more detail, together with an accompanying Parliamentary Statement and Guidance for Local Planning Authorities following the revocation of Regional Strategies may be downloaded here.

Please note:- The timetable for the Pre-Submission of the Joint Core Strategy has now been fully revised to allow for an assessment of the impact of the changes being made to planning policy following the change of Government.

The Joint Planning Unit has been instructed to prepare the Plan for consideration by the Joint Strategic Planning Committee meeting due to be held on 31st January 2011.

A statement made by the Chairman of the Joint Strategic Planning Committee on 26th July 2010, in response to a petition submitted to the Committee held on 7th June 2010, can be viewed here.
